NEWS: MARVEL OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCES BLACK PANTHER MOVIE AND FULL PHASE 3 SCHEDULE
Marvel Studios announced today at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles that a Black Panther movie adaptation has been greenlit, and they’ve even picked out actor Chadwick Boseman (42, Get On Up) to play the lead role as African vigilante T’Challa.
Marvel’s also been kind enough to provide us with some concept art of the cinematic universe’s Black Panther, which you can see in the picture above. All part of the Marvel Studios event earlier today, the House of Ideas unveiled the entire Phase 3 movie schedule and which superheroes will finally make their big solo debut. The Phase 3 list in chronological order is as follows:
- Captain America: Civil War – May 6, 2016
- Doctor Strange – November 4, 2016
- Guardians of the Galaxy 2 – May 5, 2017
- Thor: Ragnarok – July 28, 2017
- Black Panther – November 3, 2017
- Avengers: Infinity War, Part 1 – May 4, 2018
- Captain Marvel – July 6, 2018
- The Inhumans – November 2, 2018
- Avengers: Infinity War, Part 2 – May 3, 2019
That’s NINE movies. Six of which will all be occurring within a timespan of 2 years. Marvel Studios is going to be pretty damn busy. It’s easy to get really freakin’ excited over all the new titles unveiled (INFINITY WAR YES), but lets just hope they don’t go overboard with the movies, lest quality be sacrificed for quantity. To specify, Black Panther will make his debut first in Captain America: Civil War, and Captain Marvel will be “the studio’s first female-led film,” according to The Hollywood Reporter, meaning it’ll adapt the more recent rendition of Captain Marvel from the comics. Doctor Strange was also delayed from July 8th to November 4th due to difficulty finding a lead actor for the role, which recently shifted from Joaquin Phoenix to Benedict Cumberbatch. We’ll most likely hear even more news about Phase 3 in the weeks to come, so stay tuned.
