During the opening event celebration for the first Attack on Titan compliation film’s premiere event last Friday (Attack on Titan Part I: Crimson Bow and Arrow), the cast and voice actors from the anime announced that a second season had been greenlit.

The second season of Attack on Titan is scheduled to air sometime in 2016. Not much is known yet about what the second season will cover from the manga or if production on the season has started yet. Many rumors have floated around reporting that production on season 2 started back in October, but the 2016 release window seems to reject that claim. Director Tetsuro Araki and voice talents for Eren, Armin and Mikasa are set to return for the next season. The premiere event also announced the release date for the second Attack on Titan compilation film, Attack on Titan Part II: Wings of Freedom, which will be on June 27th, 2015.

Hopefully more details will arise soon, but knowing that a second season is at least being planned on is good news.
