NEWS: SQUARE ENIX CURRENTLY DEVELOPING SEVERAL NEW GAMES

During an interview with Famitsu magazine, Square Enix President Yosuke Matsuda revealed that the company is currently working on several different game projects for release across all different platforms.

Coming off the heels of Square’s earlier announcement that they would reveal a brand new RPG in December, Famitsu asked Matsuda for a few more details on the project. The president specified that the new RPG in question is being developed for consoles and will in fact not be a remake. However, Matsuda declined to reveal the game’s title yet. He followed this by stating that the company in fact had several games in development planned for announcement soon that would not just be for consoles, but handheld, smartphone and PC devices as well.

When these games will be announced and what kind of gameplay we can expect was not made clear, but Famitsu did point out that not many companies nowadays are handling projects across all platforms. With Square currently in the midst of developing Final Fantasy XV, which has been worked on for about 8 years now, it’s a wonder how they’ll manage their workload and if they possess enough manpower for it. Matsuda assured Famitsu by stating that Square will be reaching out to other studios and partners to lend a helping hand in the process.

Matsuda hopes that among the new set of projects being worked on, they might find their next big IP to join the ranks of fan-favorites such as Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts and Dragon Quest. However, the president also understands that development processes take quite a while from announcement to release date, so he hopes that in the meantime fans can look forward to December’s announcement.
