The latest masterpiece by Studio Ghibli and directed by co-founder Isao Takahata is finally getting a home release on Blu-ray and DVD combo pack next year.

The film has been licensed by Universal Studios Home Entertainment, and it will release The Tale of Princess Kaguya on February 17th, 2015. The film will have multiple special features, including:

  • Announcement of the Completion of the Film
  • Isao Takahata and His Tale of The Princess Kaguya
  • Japanese Trailers and TV Spots
  • U.S. Trailer

This is the first Studio Ghibli film to be licensed by Universal. The story follows a tiny girl who is found inside a glowing bamboo stalk, and quickly grows into a young woman who is loved by all but must confront her own destiny.  The movie’s North American premiere was held at the Toronto Film Festival on September 8th, and has been screening in select theatres across the U.S. since then. This is also the first movie from Studio Ghibli after Hayao Miyazaki’s retirement, and has won multiple film awards including the Animation Award at the 68th Mainichi Film Awards. The English dub cast stars Chloe Grace Moretz as the film’s title character, and The Tale of Princess Kaguya is currently nomiated for three Annie Awards.
