Long dismissed as vaporware by many, Nintendo’s previouslyannounced project Fire Emblem x ShinMegami Tensei was revealed to be still in production on Wednesday during
the latest Nintendo Direct. A trailer was shown during the stream, giving
consumers their first look at the world and gameplay of the long-awaited

While many people had been expecting a strategy RPG the likes of Project X Zone, Super Robot Wars and the Fire
series itself, the trailer revealed a system and world much more in
like with the Shin Megami Tensei spin
off games, the Persona series. The
main characters seem to be in high school, and day-to-day real world
interactions will play a part. A number of original characters were revealed,
as well as new designs for Fire Emblem
heroes Marth and Tiki.

On the official blog for the game, some background was added
on how the game got its unexpected style. In talks, Nintendo and Atlus decided
that if the game were to be focused on Fire
style gameplay,  then the
development should be handled by Fire
developers Intelligent Systems.
Since Atlus was developing the game, a setting and engine more like that
of the Shin Megami Tensei and Persona games was settled on. The blog
also tells those who didn’t get the “essence of Fire Emblem” from the trailer to wait patiently for more news
on that front.

Though the game is confirmed to be back on track, there is no release date for
this title yet.
