SERIES REVIEW: DAREDEVIL
Looking for something
new and exciting to watch on Netflix? Marvel has exactly what you’re looking
for.
Daredevil is
about Matt Murdock, a blind lawyer whose other senses are superhuman and fights
crime as a masked vigilante. It stars Charlie Cox (Stardust, The Theory Of
Everything) as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, Deborah Ann Woll (True Blood) as Karen Page, Elden Henson
(Castaway, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 & 2) as Foggy Nelson,
and Vincent D’Onofrio (Full Metal Jacket,
Men In Black) as Wilson Fisk.
Frankly, this is the
best superhero TV show I have ever seen. Matt Murdock’s journey to becoming the
hero that Hell’s Kitchen deserves is something everybody needs to see. One of
the things I like about the story is how it is very grounded and realistic.
There aren’t any laser guns or magic hammers to be found in this show. There’s
no campiness to be seen either, which is awesome. The fight scenes in this show
are some of the best in live-action, even better than some in most movies that
have come out within the last ten years. Also for those who are wondering if
this show is better than the 2003 Daredevil
movie, fear not, it definitely is. Even the first episode is better than that
waste of celluloid. There are also tons of Easter Eggs in the show, not only
just to other Marvel movies and TV shows, but to future Marvel/Netflix shows.
The casting director for
this show should get an Emmy just for being awesome. Charlie Cox as Matt
Murdock/Daredevil is one of the best portrayals of a Marvel superhero since RDJ
became Iron Man. You can really feel the passion when Charlie Cox delivers his
lines as both Matt Murdock and Daredevil. The other big standout performance in
the show is Vincent D’Onofrio as the imposing and malevolent Wilson Fisk.
Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin is not only menacing and a force to be reckoned
with, but also a villain we can also sympathize with and understand his
motivations. Deborah Ann Woll was great as Karen Page and Elden Henson was just
as good as Foggy Nelson. One last performance that deserves a shoutout is
Vondie Curtis-Hall as reporter Ben Urich.
In conclusion, Daredevil is a TV show everybody needs
to watch because of its awesome story and realistic characters. It also gets me
excited for future Marvel/Netflix shows, including the upcoming Defenders series. Hopefully they will be
just as outstanding as Daredevil.
