Peacemaker Trailer REVIEW

Everyone’s favorite pile of sh*t and so-called-patriot is back to show you what makes Peacemaker, Peacemaker.

Peacemaker, starring John Cena, picks up after Suicide Squad and sees him join a new black ops team. Rejoining him from Suicide Squad are John Economos, played by Steve Agee, and Emilia Harcourt, played by Jennifer Holland. New to the DCEU are Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, Robert Patrick as Peacemaker’s father Auggie Smith, and Freddie Stroma as The Vigilante. Peacemaker and The Vigilante have a history in the DC Universe so I’m curious to see how that will play into the show.

I liked the tone for sure, it feels very much like the tone Gunn sets for all of his superhero projects. The costume design is spot on too. The look of the Vigilante is very much an amalgam of all his looks, and looks way cooler than the version of Vigilante that was on Arrow. My hope is that he’s not just gonna be Deadpool-Lite but rather his own character. It also wouldn’t be a Gunn project if one of the characters in the movie wasn’t a complete nobody from the comics. In The Suicide Squad it was Polka Dot Man, and in Peacemaker it’s Judo Master. I don’t know a damn thing about this character, but with a name like Judo Master and Gunn at the helm the only way you can go is up. It sure worked for Polka Dot Man.

If there is one filmmaker that has had the biggest impact on superhero movies in the last 10 years, it has to be James Gunn. Peacemaker is another opportunity for him to continue his brand of superheroism with a team of misfits who have to work together to stop a common foe. It’s a formula that Gunn has just about perfected, having started and saved superhero franchises with it. My guess is after Guardians is done, the DCEU will be his new home and I for one am excited for that.

Wrapping up, I have to say I am excited for Peacemaker. My hope is that it will be just as satisfying as being hugged by a bald eagle. The show is a chance to humanize the least redeemable member of The Suicide Squad and entertain us at the same time. I never thought hearing the words “John Cena superhero project” would cause excitement but here we are and I’m glad we’re here.
