Blade Runner: Black Lotus Trailer REVIEW

Blade Runner: Black Lotus takes viewers back to the Blade Runner film world that started with Shinichiro Watanabe’s Blade Runner Blackout 2022.

Blade Runner: Black Lotus is set to star Game of Throne’s Jessica Henwick as series hero Elle, and will also features characters voiced by Will Yun Lee, Samira Wiley, Brian Cox, and Josh Duhamel.

Starting off I’d like to say I’m purely reviewing this from an interest standpoint. I haven’t seen the animated Blade Runner short film, Blade Runner Blackout 2022, that precedes this show. I also haven’t seen the other Blade Runner short films that are also prequels of Blade Runner 2049. I have, however, seen both live action Blade Runner films so I reviewed the trailer as a fan of the films and not as someone who was familiar with the short films.

All that aside, I think this show looks pretty cool. I’m a big fan of Love Death + Robots and the animation quality in this trailer is on par with that show. The action is super slick and the voice acting is superb. I think it’s cool that the show will feature characters from Blade Runner 2049. I like connectivity like that, it makes my nerd brain happy.

I think the show should be pleasing to fans. Before it comes out I will watch Black Out and I recommend casual viewers do the same. Nothing wrong being a casual, I’m a perpetual casual myself. What’s most important is that this show looks cool as hell and should entertain longtime fans and newcomers alike. Blade Runner: Black Lotus premieres on Saturday, November 13th on Toonami.
