MORBIUS – Official Trailer REVIEW

Marvel’s Living Vampire is coming to the silver screen to kick ass and suck blood, and he’s all out of blood.

Morbius stars Jared Leto as Dr. Michael Morbius. Set to star with him are Matt Smith, Tyrese Gibson, Jared Harris, Adria Arjona, and Al Madrigal. It tells the story of Michael Morbius, and his quest to cure himself of a rare blood disorder that was so severe that he sought out an alternative cure. The cure, however, had unintended side effects.

All this movie needs is a good script and Morbius doing cool vampire sh*t. Based on the trailer, it looks like the movie is already halfway there. Getting to see Morbius fly around and slash through bad guys was really cool. Jared looks more at home in this role that he did as the Joker for DC, except for the scene in The Snyder Cut where his Joker was a scene stealer. None of the other characters were really showcased in the film, other than Gibson’s character Simon Stroud and the quick cameo by The Vulture.

I’ve always had an affinity for Morbius. I watched the old 90s Spiderman cartoon and Morbius was one of the coolest villains from it. I think Sony made a good choice to include a Morbius film as part of Sony’s Spiderman Universe. One of the things I enjoy about this new Marvel film universe is it gives filmmakers opportunities to bring Spiderman villains to the silver screen that have yet to appear in a Spiderman film. Spiderman has a rogues gallery as dense as Batman’s and it would be almost impossible to make a movie for every villain he has.

What I like the most so far about this trailer is Morbius’s powers. Morbius looks really cool when he flies and seeing him slash through enemies is exactly how I hoped he’d look while fighting. A good vampire would basically be an evil Superman, which is the feel I get from Morbius. An antihero who is super powerful but with a vicious side.

With both Morbius, The Batman, and Black Adam coming out next year, 2022 is shaping up to be the year of the dark superhero. Morbius also has the chance to stand out amongst the more glossy super hero movies like the next Thor and The Flash. If Morbius is a hit then it will be exciting to see him possibly interact with Venom and Spiderman, further widening Sony’s Spiderman Universe. Morbius releases on January 28th, 2022.
