Obi-Wan Kenobi Official Trailer Review

May the 4th be with you, and this is
the way.I digress, but May 4th gave us a new look at the upcoming Star Wars
miniseries Obi-Wan Kenobi. Kenobi,
well, he looks a little uncivilized.

           Obi-Wan
Kenobi
will star Ewan McGregor, returning as the titular hero. Also
returning are Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader as well as Joel Edgerton and
Bonnie Piesse as Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru. New to Star Wars are Moses Ingram as
Inquisitor Reva, Rupert Friend as the Grand Inquisitor, and Sung Kang as the
Fifth Brother. Also joining the cast are Benny Safdie, Maya Erskine, O’Shea
Jackson Jr., Simone Kessel, and Kumail Nanjiani.

In the trailer it looks like in the
10 years since Order 66, Kenobi has been keeping his eyes on a young Luke while
also butting heads with Luke’s uncle, Owen Lars. This quiet exile falls apart
as Darth Vader and his inquisitors come looking for the master Jedi. Inquisitor
Reva seems to have a particular hatred for Kenobi, she being the most
aggressive of the inquisitors seen in the trailer.

           Kenobi looks rugged, tired, and
reluctant to use his lightsaber. We see him picking up a blaster for the first
time since he unceremoniously fried General Grievous. Hopefully, for the action
in the show, we get to see something similar to the Ashoka fight scenes in The
Mandalorian
.

I bet he’s been dealing with a lot of inner turmoil,
the kind you get when your apprentice and best friend turns into Darth freaking
Vader. It will be interesting to see what McGregor will bring to this character
again 17 years after Revenge of The Sith.

Tatooine looks like the same old
Tatooine we’ve been seeing in all the new Star
Wars
shows. I know it makes sense for the show to take place on Tatooine
but it’s a location that has oversaturated the new shows. However, I can’t wait
for the show to take us back to Coruscant, which looks as grimy and neon as
ever.

Inquisitor Reva is definitely the coolest looking
Inquisitor we see in the trailer. The Grand Inquisitor and the 5th Brother look
chunky and plastic, which is too bad because I feel like a company like Disney
should have a budget good enough to afford a better recreation of these
characters from Rebels. I bet though
that these characters will fade to the background once Darth Vader shows up to
try and take Kenobi down himself.

Overall I found this trailer to be pretty bare bones.
It keeps details of the plot light, but brings us back into that world by
showing us cool things we will expect to see again once the show comes out. I
am excited to see this not just as a fan of Star Wars but also as a fan of
McGregor’s Kenobi. We’ll have to see what else happens to Old Man Kenobi when
the show premieres later this month.

The first episode of Obi-Wan Kenobi premieres on May 27th.
