Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantamania New Trailer Reaction

, ,

Ant-Man and his family all take a trip to a microscopic realm of time variant warlords and techno-monsters with big heads and little arms.

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantamania stars Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Evangeline Lilly as The Wasp, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet Van Dyne, and Jonathan Majors as Kang. Joining them are newcomers Kathryn Newton as Cassie Lang as well as Bill Murray. Rumor has it Corey Stoll will be returning to the Ant-Man franchise as well as MODOK.

As someone who thought that Ant-Man was one of the best parts of Avengers: Endgame, I am excited to see how he goes from fighting Thanos to fighting Marvel’s newest big bad Kang. It still seems like kind of a massive power difference between the two, but Marvel heroes generally find a way to beat the bad guy.

The stakes will be high though since Ant-Man will have his daughter Cassie with him. Cassie will have to learn what it takes to be a superhero on the fly and get accustomed to using the technology that was given to Scott by Hank Pym. As dangerous as the Quantum Realm is, Cassie is going to have to really rely on her father, just like he will have to rely on her too.

What’s nice about tech based powers is that from a story continuation standpoint it’s very easy to set up a new hero taking over the mantle. Paul Rudd is 53, which is about how old RDJ was when he stopped playing Iron Man. It makes sense that Kathryn Newton would step in to take over the role once Paul Rudd decides that he’s done wearing the Ant-Man suit.

Tonally this Ant-Man movie is, as far as the trailer portrays it, the most serious out of the three. The first two were sci-fi action comedies from the get go but this one has high stakes. There’s gonna be lots of jokes I’m sure, but hopefully it’s still about as serious as Captain America: The Winter Soldier or Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Visually I’d compare it to Guardians or Thor. I’m sure there’s gonna be some differences based on the location but all the creatures, places, and people look very cosmic. It looks cool but what’s disappointing is it feels like more of the same.

I think that’s about all I can say about this trailer. It’s probably going to be fun and high-stakes sci-fi. The movie is very important to the rest of the next two phases because it will establish Kang. Other than that, all we the viewers can hope for is that it will be fun to watch in theaters.
