Sony Marvel goes edgelord with a film that mostly looks like an R-rated version of X-Men Origins Wolverine.
KRAVEN THE HUNTER (which will forever be in all caps because that’s how it is on YouTube) stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Kraven the Hunter. The film also stars Ariana Debose, Christopher Abbott, Fred Hechinger, Alessandro Nivola, and Russell Crowe.
Sony wants their own highly successful R-Rated superhero movie like Deadpool, Logan, Joker, and Kick-Ass. The problem with that is this movie looks stupid and it won’t be as good as those movies. I know I’m immediately hating on it, but so far everything about this movie is caca poo poo.
He gets powers from lion blood, he bites noses, and he runs on the walls like Sabertooth. It’s dumb and not in a fun way at all.
Sony wanted their own Wolverine and decided to bring their “Wolverine” into the Sonyverse by making a movie that screams X-Men Origins. That movie is fucking garbage, so therefore this movie will be garbage. I really hate that this movie exists.
When it tries to look cool, it just looks dumb. There’s a scene where Kraven shoots a guy with a crossbow, and the dude just launches back like he was hit by a car. I’ve seen that episode of Mythbusters, that shit ain’t happening unless Kraven flies back like that too. Every action needs an equal or opposite reaction, just like how if you make a stupid movie then people will then think you’re stupid.
I keep coming back to X-Men Origins because it feels so similar to this movie. He has animal-like powers, he has an evil step brother, and he’s being hunted by an assassin that wears a suit. I had to rewatch an old trailer for X-Men Origins just to see how similar they are and they look and feel nearly identical. The new KRAVEN THE HUNTER trailer is like that trailer but with more blood and more dumb stuff.
Two of the writers of this film, Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, were part of the team that co-wrote the first Iron Man. That film is amazing and is hugely important to the superhero movie genre. They also helped co-write Punisher: Warzone (RIP Ray Stevenson) which was a stupid movie but at least it was kinda fun. Stupid but kinda fun is all I ever expect these Sony Marvel films to be, and KRAVEN THE HUNTER will at least be stupid.

KRAVEN THE HUNTER comes out and will hopefully be avoided by all on August 30th, 2024. Also, the Rhino in this movie and his power is he has this serum that gives him a really bad case of eczema. Good lord this movie is gonna suck.
